Chocolate and vanilla plant-based spread

Having breakfast or a snack with a sweet spread is so indulgent and satisfactory. Italian children would do it every day! But what if you could make the sweet spread exactly the way you like, in a few simple steps, and even make it much healthier? Here you go, 2 sweet plant-based spreads: the decadent spicy chocolate spread and the intriguing sweet and savoury vanilla spread. Both gluten-free, dairy-free, refined sugar-free, completely natural, and unbelievably delicious!

 

Ingredients for 1 small jar

Spicy chocolate spread

  • 100 g of cashew nuts, as an alternative you can use hazelnuts or almonds
  • 2 heaped tsp of cocoa powder
  • 2 cloves, crushed
  • 1 cardamom pods, only the seeds, crushed
  • a sprinkle of chili pepper powder
  • a sprinkle of turmeric
  • a sprinkle of nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp of cinnamon
  • ¼ vanilla pod, scraping out the seeds or ½ tsp of natural vanilla flavor
  • ½ tsp of fresh ginger
  • ¼ zest of a lemon
  • 100 ml of coconut milk, or another plant-based milk of your choice
  • 2 tsp of agave syrup, or another plant-based sweetener of your choice

 

Sweet and savoury vanilla spread

  • 100 g of cashew nuts, as an alternative you can use hazelnuts or almonds
  • ½ vanilla pod, scraping out the seeds or 1 tsp of natural vanilla flavor
  • a sprinkle of pink Himalayan salt
  • ¼ zest of a lemon
  • 100 ml of coconut milk, or another plant-based milk of your choice
  • 2 tsp of agave syrup, or another plant-based sweetener of your choice

 

Method

Place the ingredients in your high-speed mini blender, blend for about 3 minutes, or until you obtain a smooth and creamy consistency. Stop the mini-blender every now and then, and if needed scrape the sides and add some plant-based milk. Enjoy on your favorite bread, and decorate with fresh fruit if you like. Store in the fridge for a few days.

 

Tech tips

If you want to use a traditional blender, try doubling the ingredients. You will have a bigger jar, but I doubt you will complain about it! 😉
